Joy is something I aspire to live out every day, but it often feels like there are always things trying to steal my joy away. In scripture, I am reminded that “the joy of the Lord is my strength,” and that “in His presence is the fullness of joy.” To deny joy is to deny the strength that comes from the Lord.
I realize that joy comes from focusing on God’s Word and His works. It is essential for me to remain focused on these things, as they stir my soul and allow me to experience joy that strengthens my spirit. It’s not just external things that steal my joy, but the distractions that draw my eyes away from God.
Father, help me to live with my focus on You, embracing a life of joy for my own sake and for the sake of those around me.
It seems like Paul is our perfect example on how we can find joy regardless of our circumstances. Philippians, often referred to as the “joy chapter,” was written while Paul was imprisoned. And I’m sure prisons in those days weren’t anything like prisons we have today. Like Paul, if we perform an honest search, we will see the many ways God has blessed us and we will find lots to be joyous about.
You reminded me of a verse in Jeremiah 29:13 You will seek me and find me when you seek me with all your heart.
joy is often connected to faith in God, His love, and His promises, rather than being solely dependent on happy events.
Joy is a fruit of the Spirit…
In the New Testament, joy is listed as one of the fruits of the Holy Spirit, meaning it’s a quality that develops in believers as they grow in their relationship with God.
Joy can be found in God’s presence I can look around at the mountains and feel joy in His creation.
Scripture often connects joy with God’s presence, His strength, and His promises.
The Israelites rejoicing after being freed from slavery: Their joy wasn’t based on their immediate circumstances (the desert), but on their future destiny.
The announcement of Jesus’ birth as good news of great joy The birth of Jesus is seen as a source of immense joy for believers. I have pictures the rotat on a display,Seeing them brings great joy. My family brings me great joy. Seeing my son grow into a man of God Brings me joy… All given to me by my Father.
