But seek the welfare of the city where I have sent you into exile, and pray to the Lord on its behalf, for in its welfare you will find your welfare. Jeremiah 29:7

We are called to be actively involved in our local community as witnesses of Christ. This presents an opportunity for the church to proactively engage with the community by identifying its needs, as well as informing the church on decisions that may impact the community. Representatives from the church can participate in various city meetings to explore how we can contribute to addressing these needs, and informing our churches of decision that will affect our community.

Additionally, we can engage in prayer by reaching out to local leaders personally and asking how we can pray for them. The body of Christ can also make a difference by taking on roles that would benefit our city. This principle is evident throughout scripture, with examples like Joseph in Egypt, Nehemiah, Ezra, Daniel, and many others.
