We have been purchased at a significant price, one that reflects the greatness of God’s love for us (Isaiah 53). Before, we were enslaved by sin, which led to death (Romans 6:23). However, through Christ, we have been justified, and our sins are no longer held against us. We are no longer bound to a life of death; instead, we are compelled by the love of God and owe a debt of love that leads to life (Romans 13:8).

The nature of a person who has been set free in Christ is evident. When such a person sins, they cannot remain in that state. They are moved by love to confess their sins and look to Christ for forgiveness, recognizing that sin leads to death. It is Christ alone who can save and continues to save (1 John 1:9, Philippians 2:12-13). In contrast, the person who suppresses this truth remains enslaved by sin and leads a life that ultimately results in death (Romans 1:18).

We are not only saved by Jesus; He has done so much more than we can think or imagine. By trusting in God our Savior, we are not only rescued from His wrath but also adopted into His family, becoming children of God (John 1:12-13) rather than enemies of God (Romans 5:10). We now have access to God and can cry out “Abba Father,” a term reflecting deep familial closeness. This can be likened to a child calling out to their daddy for comfort, help, love, mercy, and grace. We get to call out and receive all this and more (Romans 5:2, Hebrews 4:15). As if that weren’t enough, Jesus also grants us the privilege of being co-heirs with Him, meaning He shares His inheritance with us. We can’t begin to imagine what that truly means, but it will be awesome!

As believers in Christ, we are compelled by our new nature, which lives in opposition to this world. We will experience suffering and share in the sufferings of Christ because the world opposes Christ in us. (Colossians 1:27) When that happens, cry out “Abba Father.” He will make a way through the suffering, using it for His glory and our good (Matthew 16:24-26, 1 Peter 4:13, Galatians 2:20).

Father God, continue to help us see the greatness and significance of the sacrifice You made on our behalf. Cause us to hunger and thirst for righteousness, and give us the strength to endure suffering. In that suffering, draw us close to You, trusting in Your greater purpose amid our pain. Thank You, Jesus, for being our example.
