The thought that Jesus fulfilled the law on our behalf should fill us with relief because the tension the law created between God and humanity has been eliminated through Christ’s work on the cross.

Because of this, we can find rest in the knowledge that through faith and by grace, we are guaranteed the blessings promised to Abraham and his descendants. We have become Abraham’s descendants through faith. God Himself has chosen us to be part of His family, just as He did with Abraham and Israel (Deuteronomy 7:7, John 15:16). Abraham had a deep and profound trust that went beyond human understanding. Romans 4:18 tells us, “In hope, he believed against hope.” Abraham trusted God’s promise to him despite his challenging circumstances (Hebrews 11:1).

This is the faith we have been given in Christ—the same faith that Abraham demonstrated. He faced his situation, acknowledging that he and his wife were old, and questioned how he could become the father of a nation. Yet, he believed God’s word to be true, regardless of their age.

Do we believe? Have we trusted Jesus to fulfill the law on our behalf? We see that Abraham gave glory to God, fully convinced that God was able to do what He had promised. If God fulfilled His promise to Abraham, He will also fulfill His promises to those who believe with the faith of Abraham. This is the saving faith that hopes against hope—not looking at what we can do for salvation, but rather focusing on what He has done to save us.

By understanding this, we can exhale with relief because we have been accepted in Christ. We can now focus on our relationship with the Almighty without fear of wrath or condemnation.

Father, help us to hope against hope. When we face circumstances that seem overwhelming, please remind us of your greatness, for you have told us that nothing is impossible with God. Continue to strengthen our trust in you so that we can represent you and your family traits correctly.
